It is clear that Christians across denominations hold varying views across a wide spectrum. These will be reflected in both church practice and some areas of teaching. However there are certain 'non-negotiables' which form the central tenets of the Christian faith. In the Church of England these are known as the 'Articles of Faith', at Cheam Baptist Church we call them our 'Basis of Faith' to which all our members assent and adhere. These central beliefs guide all aspects of Church life and form the basis of our mission as expressed in the three icons of our Church logo:
The Cross - the sacrifice of Christ as the sole means of salvation.
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18)
The Bible - the means by which God reveals Himself to us.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)
The World - and its need to hear the good news of salvation through Christ.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19-20)
